Evolve MMA Singapore - Exorbitant Training Fees

Postby tiongbahruboy on Wed Sep 30, 2009 4:59 am

I recently just return to Singapore from Australia having worked there for a couple of yrs and have been training in BJJ in Sydney Australia.

Wanted to continue my BJJ training in Singapore with Evolve, but to my surprised they quoted me $500 per month (unlimited training sessions) training fees!!! I think this is a joke and a ripped off...guess they are just jumping on the bandwagon and try to pull a fast one given the popularity of BJJ and MMA at the moment. In Sydney i only paid $80 per month training fees, 3 X times a week training session at 1.5 hours each session. In Sydney, training fees of $500 per month is unheard of and you are talking about schools affiliated with the gracies, machado and john will! Training fees are reasonable with experience instructors.

Fyi, i did a check with the Gracie Academy and was told that Evolve-MMA Singapore (said to be affiliated with Renzo Gracie) is NOT TO BE ASSOCIATED with the Gracie Academy headed by Royce and Rorion. In short, Renzo Gracie is not to be associated with the Gracie under Grandmaster Helios Gracie. Fyi, i do have the email to proof it.

Seems like everyone is making quick bucks using the name Gracie. Anyhow, i am disappointed at such exorbitant training fees and am considering doing other martial arts instead. I believe Grandmaster Helios will be disappointed too, i am sure this is not the way he wanted the art he created and improvised to be used as a money making tool.

So those of you considering training at Evolve MMA Singapore, think twice. If you don't believe me, go and have a chat with their membership consultants and you will know what i mean.

If money is an issue, there are several other gyms in Singapore offering Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with qualified instruction. Let's hope this experience does not steer you away from BJJ all together. Best of luck. -Luke

Thanks Luke for your encouragement!
I have since been looking around and found a few good quality bjj schools which charge reasonable training fees.

Good luck to Evolve for trying a fast one.

Cheers!
